The Tampa Bay area is shut down to give fast ferry service a go.

It was agreed by three of four area governments on Florida’s west coast to commence the $350,000 each toward a $1.3 million pilot project starting October 2016 to April 2017 connecting Tampa and St. Petersburg.

HMS proposed that vessels will have three or four roundtrips between the cities’ waterfronts on Friday and four roundtrips on Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays except Christmas.

The city of St. Petersburg, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties are now onboard. So the Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is taking a look at the project, but he needs to see the comprehensive plan before he makes his decision. Ticket prices and shoreside facilities need to be considered before fully implementing the project. By then, they’ll decide what vessel works best.
