In recognition of the importance of our world’s seafarers and their incalculable contributions, we celebrate The Day of the Seafarer.

June 25th marks the fifth Day of the Seafarer, an annual celebration established by the International Maritime Organization (“IMO”), as a reminder of how important the world’s seafarers are and to promote awareness on what life is at like at sea. This year, the focus is on maritime education and training, and among the objectives is to inspire more people towards a seafaring future, making use of the tag #CareerAtSea.

Princess Cruises is particularly enthusiastic in its recognition of seafarers; the company supports organizations that benefit seafarers internationally, like Seafarers’ House in Florida, International Seafarers’ Center in California, Mission to Seafarers in Washington, and Seafarers’ UK. They also hold inspired events to raise funds for the benefit of seafarers, like nautical collectible auctions to be held on their cruises this July, with the Princess Cruises Community Foundation offering to match the auction proceeds up to $10,000.

There is said to be 1.5 million seafarers in the world, and it is great to have a day that honors their contributions and that which inspires more people to heed the calling of this career path. Having provided marine and industrial engineering services for the past 10 years, Kemplon Engineering is happy to honor our world’s seafarers along with the maritime industry we so proudly serve. May the years give everyone taking to the seas safe, enriching and productive journeys.
